Founded in 2002 in Campinas, FIUS — Finocchio & Ustra Sociedade de Advogados — was born from a simple conviction: excellence in legal practice is not the exclusive preserve of major urban centres. Today, with offices in Campinas, São Paulo, São José dos Campos, and Ribeirão Preto, the firm advises national and international companies with the same technical depth as the country's leading practices — and with something many fail to deliver: agility, transparency, and genuine strategic partnership.
In just over two decades, we have built a team of more than three hundred professionals dedicated to business law across its many dimensions — from complex litigation to transactional work, from tax to employment law, from environmental to digital. Each practice area is led by partners with top-tier academic backgrounds, experience at international firms, and, above all, a deep grounding in the client's reality. Our growth came from prioritising results over appearances, and substance over protocol.
Recognition followed as a natural consequence. Publications such as Chambers Brazil, Legal 500, and Análise Advocacia have consistently cited FIUS as a regional benchmark — and Análise Advocacia's diversity and inclusion ranking recognised us for four consecutive years. But the metric that makes us proudest is simple: client retention. When a company grows, it typically brings us along.
Why we exist
We exist because we believe the law can — and must — be practised differently. Technical legal expertise is not enough; one must understand the client's business with the same depth as their own CFO. When we advise on an M&A transaction, a corporate restructuring, or a high-value tax dispute, we do not see isolated processes — we see chapters in a company's story. That perspective changes everything: the advice we give, the speed at which we respond, the way we set priorities.
The second pillar of our purpose is management. Law firms have historically resisted managing themselves like businesses. We made the opposite choice: we invest in processes, technology, internal governance, and leadership development. The result is that we deliver not only legal quality, but operational predictability — something corporate clients need and rarely find among their legal advisors.
What drives us
- Client centricity as an obsession. The client is not a counterpart — they are the centre. That means genuine partner accessibility, clear SLAs, and honesty when the best advice is not the most profitable for the firm.
- Innovation that makes sense. We do not adopt technology for the sake of trends — we adopt it when it compresses time, reduces error, or improves the client experience. Legal tech, contract automation, risk analytics: every tool must justify its cost in concrete results.
- Diversity and freedom of expression. We believe diverse teams deliver better solutions. We actively invest in a plurality of perspectives — gender, background, education — and cultivate an environment where technical disagreement is valued, not suppressed.
- Excellence without ego. Merit speaks for itself. We do not need institutional arrogance to demonstrate quality; we prefer to let the work delivered and satisfied clients do that.
- Continuous learning as strategy. FIUS invests systematically in the development of its professionals — from internship through to partnership. A more complete lawyer delivers more to the client. It is as simple as that.
- Ethics, non-negotiable. Integrity is not a decorative value on our organisational chart. We decline mandates that conflict with our principles, maintain an active whistleblower channel, and hold internal compliance to the same rigorous standards we demand of our clients.
